Standing tall as the second-highest volcano in El Salvador, this imposing colossus reaches an altitude of 2,182 meters above sea level at its eastern summit.
The indigenous Nahuatl name Chichontepeque translates beautifully to “Cerro de las Dos Tetas” (Mountain of the Two Breasts), named after its iconic, symmetrical twin peaks that dominate the regional horizon. This is a true high-mountain challenge, trading paved footpaths for rugged, raw trails that lead directly through volcanic steam fields and dense cloud forests.

- Total Duration: Approximately 5 to 7 hours total round trip (depending heavily on group pace and weather conditions).
- Hiking Distance: Roughly 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) out-and-back trail.

- Los Infiernillos / Fumaroles Entry Fee: Small varying local community maintenance fees may apply depending on the trailhead entrance point chosen.
